Kwaranturi - Sacred Heart Church |
03-06-2009. On Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 of June, the Kwaranturi, or a three day period of solemn adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in our parish. On Sunday, the procession with the Sacrament would be held in the evening following a High Mass presided over by H.L. Mario Grech Bishop of Gozo. This is an occasion for each and every parishioner to recourse to Jesus. It is a chance which really no one should afford to loose. Jesus tells us in the Gospel of St Matthew: "Come to me all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gently and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light". (Mt, 11:28-30). This year, our parish will also commemorate the first centenary since the titular painting of the Sacred Heart (shown in picture) was produced by Giacomo d'Esposito in 1909. For the whole programme of the Kwaranturi please visit the weeakly parish Bulletin. (http://www.nadurparish.com/docs/Bullettin.pdf). |

St Paul's feast at Munxar |
03-06-2009. Last Sunday, 31 May 2009, our Collegiate Chapter and the St. Peter and St. Paul fraternity of our parish were invited to take part in the Vespers as well as the procession with the statue of St. Paul in this Pauline year which ends on 29 June. This is because our parish has a special relation with the St. Paul parish in Munxar through St. Paul himself who is the patron saint of Munxar while a patron saint along with Saint Peter of our parish. The Rev. Chapter took part both in the Vespers and the Procession while the fraternity took part in the Procession. The Collegiate Chapter was headed by Archpriest Mgr Saviour Muscat who also blessed the congregation with the Sacrament following the procession. Present also in the procession, along with the fraternities and clergy of Munxar were the various parish priests and archpriests. My Saint Paul continue to be an inspiration for everyone to live a holy life and protect both our parishes. Photos of the event could be found in the gallery section. click here |

99th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Sacred Heart Church |
|
23-05-2009. Yesterday, 22 May the Sacred Heart Church in our parish has commemorated its 99th anniversary of its dedication. The Church itself, whose founder was Fr Joseph Vella from our parish was built in the beginning of the twentieth century and dedicated on 22 May 1910 by Mgr John Mary Camilleri, the Bishop of Gozo. Unfortunately, its founder, Fr Vella did not see it ready as he left this world on 17 June 1906. Nevertheless, his relatives continued the work and thoughout the decades it was decorated with fine paintings and sculpture by various artists, namely Lazzaro Pisani, Francesco Saverio Sciortino, Giacomo d'Esposito and Giuseppe Briffa. The Church has served an important role in our parish, with three masses daily and frequent adoration of the blessed sacrament are held. Recently, the church has served an even more important role as masses from 7.45 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. are being held there instead of the Basilica where electoricty installation works are taking place. The Sacred Heart Church will hold its Kwaraturi, a three day period of solemn adoration of the Eucharisty in the first weekend of June |

142 Anniversary of the Dedication of our Parish Church |
13-05-2009. On the 12th May our parish marked the 142nd year from the dedication of its parish church. Though the Church had been ready in 1804, it was on 12 May 1867 that it was consecrated. During that particular period, the Diocese of Gozo was without a bishop, as Mgr Micheal Buttigieg, the first Gozitan Bishop, who was also a son of our parish had died. Therefore, its Mgr Paul Micallef, Apostolic Administrator of the diocese who consacrated the church. It was the first Parish Church to be consacrated following the Gozo Diocese foundation in 1864. The costs of the occasion were paid for by Angelo Camilleri known as Tal-Lenġent (shown in picture). The occasion was celebrated on Tuesday 12th May by a solemn mass held in our Basilica at 5.30p.m. |
